Flushing your Cannabis Plants
Cannabis is one of the rare plants out there that has a ton of terpenes in this to create different smells, flavors, and aromas that definitely enhance the tastebuds of this. Some people like to get the plants free of nutrients once it’s harvested. If the plants have too many nutrients, it then causes problems with the buds, due to the excess salt that’s there. When you burn it say, to smoke the bud, it actually can make it taste bad, and it also might cause the joint to spark for sme people. The solution to this is flushing cannabis.
Why do this?
Cannabis get a ton of nutrients that vary in amounts, with the curve for feeding starts to go from less and then later on to a lot more until it hits the nutritional peak, about 6-7 weeks into the flowering part of this, and it depends on the genetics, and from that moment, the needs that the cannabis plant do subside a whole lot.
When the plants no longer need the nutrients that are there, you shouldn’t’ feed them a lot, since they don’t need it, and eventually, they’ll metabolize this later. If they do have too many fertilizers, they’ll look very dark, and the buds will not have the sme flavor that those plants that have leaves that are yellow and clean will have. so it’s important to make sure that you flush the nutrients, since it enhances the flavor and the bud quality too.
How it’s done
Flushing involves providing a ton of water to the growing substrate to help get the different minerals out. You can leach off soil, expanded clay, coco cair, perlite, and others, and this will then get rid of the nutrients. If you want to get rid of nutrients, you want to make sure that the water tables around the capacity of the pots, and it does depend on the way you feed the plant, and the type of growing medium.
If you use a nutritional program within this, that has high levels of EC, you’ll want to flush this a whole lot more than if you’re using those with lower levels of EC rates. If you’re wondering whether the EC is too high or too low, you should just water based on the nutritional program EC levels, and then measure the drainage water EC once you’ve finished watering.

You measure this by filling up a bit of the runoff water that’s near the bottom, and then use the EC meter to check this. If it’s higher than in the irrigation water, it means that there are salts in there that are accumulating you need to get rid.
Basically, you can check for nutrient imbalances too, and you might need to use water with almost no minerals or low minerals to help with flushing this.
You want to water this plant, get the runoff from this, measure this, and once you’ve found that the drainage is lower, around .5 or .6, it means that the minerals are now starting to leave the substrate and almost all of the nutrients have said bye, so you don’t have to worry about it affecting the bud quality.

Usually, plants do notice this, and usually, if they have an excess, they’re able to equalize this, to make it work. Typically, once the plant gets those nutrients flushed out, it’ll absorb it, and later on, the excess will evaluate out through the root area, to the point where the EC is drastically lowered. What this means, is if you have to flush, definitely do it.
